Project Overview

The project involved upgrading two units (unit 105 and 107) in Kirkuk Refinery from an obsolete analog control scheme to a modern Siemens SIMATIC PCS 7 V9.1 Distributed Control System.
The new system architecture was built on high-availability, redundant Siemens CPU 410H controllers. Field instrumentation signals from the heater, crude tower, diesel and kerosene strippers were connected through SIMATIC ET 200SP distributed I/O modules
The program was developed using Siemens Control Module Types (CMT). This modular, object-oriented programming approach standardized the logic blocks across both refinery units.
The core functionality of the PCS 7 system for this project relied heavily on integrated PID controllers to stabilize and optimize the refinery’s process loops.
